DAY 1: Arrival at El Escorial
El Escorial is very well connected with Madrid, both by bus and train. Enjoy your first evening here: the views, the bars and maybe a visit to the Monastery.

DAY 2: Machotas peaks circular walk (15 km/750 m or 13 km/600m)
Walk to the place where Philip II sat to check the progress in the works of the Monastery, and climb up to the beautiful Machotas peaks and enjoy the views. Complete the circular walk and enjoy a well deserved beer at a terrace bar.

DAY 3: Escorial to Guadarrama and Cercedilla (18.5 km/850 m or 10km/700m)
Climb up the beautiful Abantos peak (1753 m) and keep walking along the ridge, enjoying views of Gredos. See the amazing 150 m high cross of Valle de los Caidos and descend into Guadarrama, a town with many bars, ideal to catch a bus (each 30 minutes) to Cercedilla. For a shorter walk, climb up Abantos, walk down back to Escorial and take a taxi to Cercedilla.

DAY 4: Several circular routes at Fuenfria Valley in Cercedilla
Enjoy the many possibilities of this valley, including the walk along the remains of a Roman road that climbed up to a 1792 m high pass! You can even hit 2100 m high peaks, with views for miles. Overnight in Cercedilla.

DAY 5: Cercedilla to Cotos and to La Granja  (19.5 km / ↑ 550m ↓ 1200m or 14.7km / ↑ 400m ↓ 1050m)
Take a charming mountain train from Cercedilla to Cotos pass. Peñalara offers amazing scenery to Rascafria valley and several lagoons and glacier formations. From Nevero pass (2096 m) you can easily descend to the elegant La Granja, considered the Spanish Versailles. For a longer walk, you can also keep walking the ridge for 5 km more.

DAY 6: Valsain Valley, La Granja and Segovia (13 km / ↑ ↓ 350m)

Today you can walk Valsain valley (a gentle walk along a lovely stream, or even walk up to a hill with views), and, of course, you can also visit the Royal sites at La Granja: the gardens, the palace or the glass factory After that, take a taxi or bus to nearby Segovia, a unique city full of historic fascinating monuments and typical Castilian restaurants.

DAY 7: Departure from Segovia
Depart from Segovia, a town very well connected with Madrid (hourly trains and buses). Or stay an additional day to enjoy this wonderful city..
