Salzkammergut Trekking Holiday Austria brings you to the Salzkammergut area (Lake District), with a total of 76 lakes, is one of the most impressive regions in the heart of Austria. The defining feature of the Salzkammergut has always been the visual drama between the countless small and large lakes nestling in the abruptly rising mountains of the Northern Alps. The newly established long distance trail links these hotspots in a never seen before, comprehensive way.
In December 1997 the “Hallstatt – Dachstein / Salzkammergut” region joined the list of the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Sites. The UNESCO recognized a big part of the Inner Salzkammergut as a World Heritage site worth to be preserved. With 76 crystal clear lakes, a magical mountain world with rich green Alpine pastures contrasting jagged rock faces up to the 3000 m high Dachstein glacier the Salzkammergut offers amazing diversity and beauty for its visitors.
The culture of this region is lived tradition and custom during all seasons and it offers theatres, dance events, concerts, cabarets and exhibitions. The ambiance varies between impressive theatres to modern architectural locations.
Beside numerous beautiful villages and towns, Hallstatt is a must see. This historic village joined the list of UNESCO “World Cultural and Natural Heritage” sites in December 1997. Stroll through the beautiful village, soak up the atmosphere while resting at the lake and visit the oldest salt mine in the world.
Summer in the Lake District means discovering charming landscapes by foot and enjoying the crystal clear waters of the numerous lakes.
The Salzkammergut Trekking Holiday Austria daily stages are introductory to moderately difficult and are suitable for beginners. A reasonable fitness level and basic hiking equipment like good hiking shoes, rucksack, rain and sun protection, functional clothing and also a warmer jacket or pullover are necessary to enjoy your trip.

Where you rest your head after an active day is hugely important to us. We go to great lengths to find properties that are unique expressions of the region you are travelling through. Think of them as the charming and intimate garnish atop your trip.
Whether nestled in the heart of a village or lost in the countryside and surrounded by nature, all accommodations are chosen using a strict criteria of comfort, hospitality, and authentic charm. We like to use locally run independent small hotels, guest houses and B&Bs instead of the larger “chain” hotels. All of them are hand-picked, visited, and re-visited by our local partners. On most of our holidays you will be staying in different hotels and their uniqueness and individual character only adds to the enjoyment of your holiday. You will also benifit with knowledge that your trip is contributing to local economies, and supporting local family run businesses.
You will be welcomed in a double or twin room (2 beds) – based on double occupancy.
All of our rooms have private bathrooms.
Individual rooms are possible upon request when you book; they are subject to availability and incur a supplemental fee.
For biking trips, all of our inns have a safe place to keep bicycles for the night
