The Las Alpujarras walking holiday is a leisurely Self Guided walking itinerary which gives the walker a great taste of the region and stays in some beautiful hotels. This week takes in the beautiful la taha region for two days before transferring to Trevelez the highest village in Spain and famous for its air cured ham, and the lesser walked area around Berchules and Cadiar.

Las Alpujarras walking holiday Itinerary

Day 1
Meet at Hotel Finca Los Llanos.(Transfers Available)
Welcome drinks and go through the walk week with you.


Day 2
La Cabadilla Circuit – 6/7km – 3-5 hrs – Ascent 200m/Decent 200m
Walk from the hotel towards the stunnning Sierra Nevada mountain range and the deserted village of la Cebadilla. Abandoned in 1957 after the Hydroelectric plant was finished, a perfect village at the head of the Rio Toril and Rio Poquiera meeting. Walk back along the other side of the gorge to Capileira.


Day3
Checkout of hotel
Walk from Capileira to hotel Mecina – 14km 4-6hrs – linear walk
Walking out of the Poquiera gorge with some fantastic views of the Sierra Nevada before dropping down into the Taha region.
Check into Hotel Mecina.


Day 4
Sierra Mecina Circuit – 12km – 4-6hrs Ascent 200m/Descent 200m
A beautiful walk through the taha region. Walking on ancient mule tracks you will walk through a varied landscape and visit some of the best unspoilt villages in the Alpujarras.


Day 5
Checkout of Hotel Mecina
Transfer to Trevelez (20mins) Check in to Hotel La Fragua
Free DaY OR Rio Culo Pero – 11km – 4-6hrs Ascent 200m/Descent 200m
A leisurely walk gradually gaining height above Trevelez and following the valley up towards the Sierra Nevada. An excellent opportunity to spot Golden eagles soaring above you then descend to the valley and follow the Rio Trevelez back in to the village.


Day 6
Free Day or Walk to Junta de los Rios 8km return.
Granada & the Alhambra excursion (45 euro per person min 2 people) of Timar.


Day 7
Checkout of Hotel la Fragua
Trevelez to Timar 12km Ascent 200m/Descent 300m
Walking from Trevelez up through pine forests before it levels out in to the scrubland above the village of Juviles, you follow the Gr7 for the walk all the way to the village of Juviles before dropping dOWn further to the small vilage of Timar.


Day 8
Check out of hotel. Transfer to Airport.

Lunches
Lunches can be obtained from hotels or from local shops. The average price for a picnic lunch from a hotel is 6.50/7.50 Euro, which will include a sandwich, fruit, cake and a drink.

Hotels
The hotels we use have been used by our supplier for years and we use them because they are excellent quality with good comfortable en-suite rooms and great food. Swimmming pools are open from end of May till the beginning of September.

Alqueria de Morayma
A beautiful hotel based in Cadiar. It has been developed over the years keeping all the local architecture and building techniques. Excellent food with wine from there own vine yards. With swimming pool.

Hotel la Fragua
A traditional hotel based in Trevelez, the highest village in Spain. Excellent food in their own separate restaurant.

Hotel Mecina Fondales
A charming hotel based in the la taha region. Wonderful views and excellent rooms. With swimming pool.

Hotel Finca Los Llanos

3 * Rural Accommodation in Capileira charming family run hotel in the lovely village of Capilerira. Rooms are large and all en-suite. There is a swimming pool open most of the year. Wi-fi in all the rooms. Evening meals in the restaurant. If busy it will be a good hot buffet

By Car

A good hire car comparison site is www.travelsupermarket.com, the cheapest we have found.

From Granada

Take the E-902/ A-44 to Motril, take the A346 exit to La Alpujarra. Travel through the town of Torvizcon and carry on the A346. Turn left to Cadiar A348, enter Cadiar turn left at petrol station, then next left towards Narila. Drive on for 1 ½ km to Narila.

From Almeria

Take the E15 to Motril/Malaga, take A-345 to Albunol, after Albunol turn left onto A4127 and follow road to Cadiar. Turn left at petrol station and next left to Narila, follow road to Narila.

By Bus

There are several buses than run between Granada and Cadiar ,Almeria and Cadiar, if people wish to use public transport to get here we are willing to promote this carbon efficient way by offering a 40 Euro discount from your holiday price. The bus company is ALSA which is also useful for onward travel.
