Behind the French Riviera’s glamour hides timeless villages, nestled in lush valleys and nesting atop rocky crags. On the Beautiful perched villages of the French Riviera, the ancient paths wind through forests and follow majestic olive groves. Perched high above the sea, the views are stunning and breathtaking. The centuries-old paths lead straight to the beautiful Italian town of Menton.

Each tour includes a complete Road book with detailed itineraries, information for visits along the way, a detailed map and total peace of mind with our 24-hour local support.
We work with local operators through-out each destination that are passionate about their regions.
We can tailor make this tour, if you want to add an extra rest day, spend a few days relaxing before or after the trip just let us know and we will be happy to provide a quotation.
Day 1 – Breil sur Roya
Arrival on your own by train from Nice > Breil sur Roya ( not included )
Breil sur Roya: market on Tuesday & Thursday morning
Nestled along the banks of the river Roya, your walking holiday begins in the picturesque town of Breil sur Roya, far from the bustle of the coastline. You’re surrounded by lush mountains and in a place where time is at a standstill. The town is shaped like a crescent along the waters, with colourful streets laden with cobbles. You’ll hear both languages – French & Italian- and feel both influences in food, culture, and in architecture.
Night in your hotel in Breil sur Roya. Dinner on your own.
Day 2 – Breil sur Roya > Sospel
From the border of Italy to France
Walking time about 9 miles/15 km – 5h30 – +600m/-550m
Breil sur Roya: market on Tuesday & Thursday morning
You leave Breil sur Roya by foot, giving you a wonderful panorama of the valley. There are two choices in paths above the village and we’ve chosen the one less travelled, following abandoned stone terraces, now dotted with olive trees. You reach the stunning ghost town of Piène Haute, more Italian than French, perched above the valley. Your path then takes you to Italy – to the colourful town of Olivetta – before returning France and to the town of Sospel. Sospel is a genuine and medieval mountain town with a n old stone toll bridge crossing the Brévera river. Night in your hotel in Sospel. Dinner on your own.
Day 3 – Sospel > Sainte Agnes
Col de castillon to Ste Agnes
Walking time about 6 miles/10 km – 4 hours – +/-550m
Sospel: market on Thursday morning
A short taxi transfer takes you to the start of our walk. After a gradual climb through a scenic beech forest the summit appears – and perched well over 1000m above the sea the Mediterranean appears in all its majesty, the southern Alps. You reach the perched village of Sainte Agnès, listed among the most beautiful villages in France, and set at 800m in altitude. It is the highest coastline village in Europe.
Night in your hotel in Ste Agnes. Dinner on your own.
Day 4 – Sainte Agnes > Menton
Down to the Mediterranean
Walking time about 8.7 miles / 14 km – 4 ½ hours – +250m / -950m-
Once again you leave Sainte Agnès by foot, and walking along a deep and scenic valley you reach the lost villages of Monti and Castellar. Castellar offers quaint streets & restaurants. You path leads you to the heart of the town of Menton, the prettiest town on the French Riviera with its colourful streets winding around in never-ending labyrinths and with several architectural treasures
Night in your hotel in Menton. Picnic lunch included. Dinner on your own.
Day 5 – End of the trip in Menton
Menton market: every morning at the covered market
Your trip ends this morning after breakfast. Au revoir…!

On most of our holidays you will be staying in different hotels and their uniqueness and individual character only adds to the enjoyment of your holiday. You will also benifit with knowledge that your trip is contributing to local economies, and supporting local family run businesses.
You will be welcomed in a double or twin room (2 beds) – based on double occupancy.
All of our rooms have private bathrooms.
Individual rooms are possible upon request when you book; they are subject to availability and incur a supplemental fee.
For biking trips, all of our inns have a safe place to keep bicycles for the night
Flights are not included in the price. Adventure Holidays do not book flights. We will advise you on best times, dates and airfares to book.
